Hazel Irvine is employed by Capital and Coast District Health Board (CCDHB), Wellington, New Zealand as Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Coordinator. She is a registered nurse and midwife and a member of the NZ Association of Psychotherapists. Hazel’s extensive clinical work in the public and private health sectors has been combined with six years as a member of the Ethics Committee for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ECART) and on the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal. Previous specialist areas include teaching and providing professional supervision for nurses, midwives and other health professionals. She has been a member of CCDHB Clinical Ethics Advisory Group (CEAG) since 2011 and the Chair since November 2013. This role has involved establishing sound processes to underpin the work of the CCDHB CEAG, raising the profile of the CEAG within the organisation and management of case referrals. She works alongside Dr Alastair Macdonald, previous chair and current Clinical Ethics Advisor (CEA) for the DHB.
